Why Source A Brisbane Cockroach Exterminator?

Nobody likes cockroaches. Even though entomologists – insect scientists – may tell us most species are harmless, they wouldn’t want you to find a cockroach in their house. And since we at Pest Doctors are dedicated to eradicating them, that makes this Brisbane cockroach exterminator very popular. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it.

These reviled insects are thought to have first appeared at least 200 million years ago; they can survive anywhere from the freezing Arctic to the sweltering tropics and they can spread disease. When a cockroach appears in your house, you feel you’ve failed in the areas of health and hygiene. These nasty survivors have the ability to get in through little cracks and spaces you might think are too small for them. The collective noun is an intrusion of cockroaches.

How Do Cockroach Exterminators in Brisbane Go About Getting Rid of Them?

Our cockroach exterminators in Brisbane use liquid chemicals and powders both indoors and out to kill cockroaches. We also advise householders on day-to-day means of making their property less attractive to these little beasts. If you’ve got an intrusion of cockroaches, call us today and we’ll step in asap to make your place feel clean and safe again.

Our Brisbane Pest Cockroach Control Services

When we come to help you get rid of a cockroach infestation, we always start with a thorough inspection to determine the cockroach species involved, the causes of the problem and the location of their nest. This will inform our treatment. We can take care of both small and large cockroach species and offer thorough cockroach pest control in Brisbane. For large cockroaches, our treatment takes three different steps: spray the external perimeter and hotspots, blow powders into areas of risk, and use cockroach baits inside the home. For small species, we use sprays and dusts and cockroach gel baits in the affected areas. For some roaches, we might need several visits. Because of our extensive approach, we can offer a 12-month warranty on large cockroach treatments and a 3-month warranty on small cockroach treatments in Brisbane.

Professional Cockroach Treatments

German cockroach (small cockroach) – up to 1.5cm

Large cockroaches are covered in our General Pest treatment, which comes with a 12 month warranty. However, if you have a major infestation of a large cockroach species or a problem with one of the small cockroach species, a specialist cockroach treatment will be necessary.

Before we carry out any treatment, we also carry out an inspection to determine the species present, the location of the problem and the potential causes.

Treatments for large cockroach species

Large cockroaches, such as the American or Australian cockroaches, typically live outside the home, in the garden, drains and rubbish bins. They will also live in the roof void or sub-floor and will often come inside to escape the rain or heat, looking for food or moisture, or just by accident.

Our treatment for large cockroaches involves three elements:

  • Spray external perimeter and hotspots such as drains and bins
  • Blow powder into weepholes, sub-floors and roof voids
  • Use cockroach baits in kitchen and internal areas if required

Treatments for small cockroach species

Small cockroaches, especially German cockroaches, are amongst the most difficult pests to control. This is due to their small size, their ability to build ‘nests’ in the smallest of spaces and their rapid rate of reproduction.

German cockroaches and brown banded cockroaches only live indoors, and will hide in cracks and crevices, door hinges, dishwasher control panels, in toasters and under microwaves… really in any small, dark hiding place.

To control small cockroaches a thorough inspection is vital to success before applying a range of specialist products.

Typically a German cockroach treatment involves using:

  • Cockroach gel baits in infested areas
  • Sprays or dusts as spot treatments in areas unsuitable for baiting

For German cockroaches, it may be necessary to carry out more than one visit.

For commercial establishments, particularly food handing businesses, regular servicing may be required.

Warranties

Providing any post treatment recommendations are implemented, for large cockroach treatments we offer a 12 month warranty, for German cockroach treatments we offer a 3 month warranty.

The warranty is shorter for German cockroaches as they can easily be introduced into a residence inside packaging and cardboard boxes brought in from outside.

How to prevent a cockroach problem?

Maintain good hygiene

  • Clear up any spilled food
  • Clean down and under the oven / fridge regularly
  • Do not leave unwashed dishes out overnight
  • Put rubbish into sealed bins and stack away from the house

Eliminate food sources

  • Do not leave pet food bowls out with food in or unwashed
  • Food should be stored in tight “cockroach proof” containers

Fix any leaking taps / pipework

Cockroaches love moisture, so eliminating any leaking taps or pipework and resolving any moisture / drainage problems will make your home less attractive to cockroaches.

Stop cockroaches entering the building

As cockroaches can enter the building through the smallest of gaps, fill any cracks in the floors, walls and around pipework; use weephole protectors; install wiring on vents; and make sure insects screens are well fitted.

The small cockroach species often hitch hike their way into homes in cardboard boxes. Check and incoming packaging material for cockroaches and their egg cases.

Clear up the area around and under your home

As the large species of cockroaches often like to live in and around wood piles, mulch and  garden debris, keep such materials away from buildings.

Avoid storing goods under the home or in the roof void, especially in cardboard boxes, as these create ideal hiding places for large cockroach species.

How do cockroach baits work?

To eliminate a cockroach infestation, particularly a German cockroach infestation, we will always include a cockroach bait in our treatment program. Cockroach baits are not designed to work instantly, but they are a vital tool to achieve complete elimination.

Professional cockroach gel baits contain a highly attractive food matrix and a slow acting insecticide. As around 80% of the cockroach population stay hidden, and even foraging cockroaches do not wander far from their harbourages, we need to place the cockroach bait near the cockroach hiding places.

Cockroaches feeding on the bait do not die immediately but return to their nest. This is vital for success, as in the hours after eating the bait, their vomit and droppings contain small amounts of the insecticide.

Other cockroaches find this vomit and droppings highly attractive (!!) and in eating them, they also ingest the insecticide and die.

It can take several days for the bait to eliminate the entire population and in the case of severe infestations, a second visit and treatment may be required.

Cockroaches and Diseases

Cockroaches are considered ‘dirty’ and disgusting with good reason. Cockroaches, especially the large cockroaches, are found around drains, sewers and garbage. When they then enter buildings and crawl over food preparation surfaces, they transfer the diseases they carry. They are known to carry a range of diseases that cause stomach upsets, such as Salmonella, E. coli and dysentery.

Cockroaches and Asthma

Research has shown that cockroaches are one of the main causes of childhood asthma in inner city apartment blocks. Their shed skins and droppings contain the allergens that can cause allergic reactions and asthma.
